Emergency Resources
The Emergency Resources Program operates as part of the PGNFC Health Department and serves those in need in the Prince George area. We operate emergency and holiday food hamper programs, and help support clients with urgent needs for clothing, personal care items, and medically required transportation when funds allow.
This program is funded by the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch as well as by contributions from local businesses, service providers, and PGNFC staff.

Services:
Emergency Food Hampers:
Food hampers are distributed Monday to Thursday from 2pm to 3pm, from the PGNFC food bank. The food bank located is in the basement of the Prince George Native Friendship Centre building at 1600 3rd Ave, Prince George. This program is open to anyone that resides in Prince George. To receive a hamper, we require proof of name and address. This can be in the form of a government ID (driver’s license, status card, etc.), a bill with name and address, a rental agreement, a rent receipt, or another similar form of authentication. We will also accept proof of name and address if vouched for by an employee of an approved social service provider in person. Clients who are unable to present proof of name and address or do not have a permanent address may still receive a smaller ‘survival’ hamper containing shelf-stable goods that do not require refrigeration or cooking. Each household must wait a minimum of 1 month after receiving a hamper to use the program again. A needs assessment form must be completed each time the program is accessed.
Clothes Closet:
The Clothes Closet program helps individuals seeking emergency clothing for themselves or others in their household. Currently, the Clothes Closet is not open to the public to browse. People in urgent need of clothing can talk to the program coordinator directly to request specific items and sizes. During the winter months, emergency winter clothes (gloves, toques etc.) may be available during food bank hours.
Emergency Travel and Medical Assistance:
When funds allow, emergency assistance to help with unexpected costs may available. This can range from assistance with glasses and prescriptions to help with the costs of travel associated with personal or familial illness, injury, or death. Please note that we are unable to offer this type of assistance at this time due to budget restrictions. However, the program coordinator may be able to share alternative programs to resolve the needs of each individual.
Limited tickets for the Prince George bus system are available at the food bank window for no cost thanks to the collaborative United Way and City of Prince George Transit Assistance Program (TAP).
Community Gardens:
Since 2002, many community agencies, including the Prince George Native Friendship Centre, have been fortunate to be part of the Queensway Community Garden: this peaceful shared space, established on land donation by Ed and Lynn Gilliard, has provided countless hours of sun, fresh air, and exercise, and large volumes of fresh produce to the community of Prince George.
Pivotal to this our emergency services existence is the countless hours of time and effort put in by volunteers to organize clothes, stock shelves, pack hampers, and maintain the garden. Many thanks to those who give willingly to this program. For more information please contact Emma Faulkner, Program Coordinator.
